Our Story

Born from firsthand experience.

The idea for BIAR was born in 2017 when its founder, Marcel Elijah Rappetti, relocated from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng to pursue tertiary education at the University of the Witwatersrand. Like many first-time commuters, adapting to a new city and navigating unfamiliar public transport systems presented numerous challenges.

Although public buses offered an affordable mode of transportation, persistent issues such as unclear routes, long waiting periods, unreliable schedules, and complicated ticket purchasing processes made daily commuting difficult and frustrating.

Recognizing that these challenges were not unique but were experienced by millions of commuters across South Africa and around the world, extensive research was conducted into public transportation systems and their shortcomings. This investigation revealed a significant opportunity: the need for a centralized, user-friendly platform capable of addressing the most common public transport challenges.

From this need, BIAR was conceived.

We treat mobility as a software problem worth solving from first principles.
